The “25-year rule” for importing cars into the US refers to a federal law that exempts people from having to import cars that are at least 25 years old from the date of production from having to meet certain safety and emissions requirements.
To ensure that automobiles imported into the US satisfy the same safety and emissions criteria as those sold domestically, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) and the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) placed the rule in place.
As long as they meet certain requirements, such as being in their original condition or having changes that comply with the 25-year rule, automobiles that were not initially produced for sale in the US can be imported and registered for usage. Please check it to local DMV before purchase.
